We call it Murphy's Law but in England they call it Sod's Law!! Whatever you call it, in this case it attacked the electrical system and the day before we arrived there were no lights and no hot water in the flat which was kindly lent to me by a friend that I have known since I was in the cradle. Poor Clare had the electrician here at midnight on the day before our arrival but had to arrange for him to finish things off when we got here....tricky since we had no idea when we would arrive. After an uneventful trip to London Heathrow we caught the coach into London and arrived at the flat about 30 minutes ahead of the electrician. Three hours later the lights and hot water were on but he had discovered a leak and informed us he would return in the morning. We then dragged our tired bodies around to the local grocery store before collapsing into bed at 9 pm England time.
We call it a 3 level condo, and the Brits call it a Maisonette. Clare's flat is in Central London, not only by the Victoria Coach Station but also by the police station as I was to find out since the sirens were going all night. It mattered not...I was so tired that no sooner awake than I was back to sleep again.
If you are wondering why you are hearing from us before we've even stepped out in London it is because it is now Saturday morning and we are just waiting for the electrician to finish up and then we'll be off and running. Its a lovely looking day out there and since 5 am we've enjoyed the view from the 9th floor of this building which has access to views in both directions, not to mention a steady stream of planes heading for Heathrow.
